COLNE Valley Golf Club hosted The Warren in their annual challenge match for the Pete McKay Trophy and it was the visitors who kept their hands on the silverware.

A total of 52 golfers playing betterball matchplay took to the course on a glorious day and all were played in great spirit.

The Warren took the early advantage and after five matches finished, they led 4-1, before the Valley staged a comeback by taking the next five for a 6-4 lead, however, the Warren grabbed the last three to win 7-6 and retain the Pete McKay Trophy.

A notable achievement came as the only junior playing, 15-year-old Keiron Derham from the Warren, hit his drive on the 18th just under 300 yards uphill to beat all the men and take the longest drive honours.

Meanwhile, the first two semi-finalists were confirmed in Colne Valley's Winter League.

Jack Perfect Brown and Russel Bell eased to a 6&4 victory over Steve Taylor and Andy Wilkinson, while a closer contest saw a Stuart Hurst birdie on the 17th earning him and John Poulson a 2&1 victory over Alex Grimshaw and Tom Murton.

The men’s Saturday stableford was won by Antony Kirwan with 35 points, with Roger Holmes second on 33 and Tom Earl third on 32.

Amanda Rollings took the honours in the ladies' league round six.

Her 19 points were enough to take the win over Yvonne Eatwell on 17 followed by Ruth Eyre-Pugh on 16.

There was also victory for Cynthia Hollingsworth in the ladies' stableford with 34 points, with Lesley Knight second on 31.
