A MAGNIFICENT win in this year's final round allowed Andy Bouttell and Russell Lapper to edge to overall victory in the Gosfield Lake Golf Club Winter League.
It was the climax to eight rounds of competition over the winter and three pairings had headed into the final day with the title in their sights.
Favourites to become the annual champions had been Dave Totman and Glyn Robinson, but Bouttell and Lapper and Matt Payne and Jon Powell were close on their tails, with only a handful of points between them.
Last year’s winners, Peter Prince and Trevor Joyce, had left too much to do and were unable to repeat the double this year, but the last day saw a victory for Bouttell and Lapper.
That allowed them to improve their overall points total to 116 as they pipped Totman and Robinson to the title by one point after they finished fourth in the season-ending event.
In third place overall was the pairing of Payne and Powell on 111 points.
