TREVOR Blows held his nerve in the final game of the Essex Invitation Petanque League season to secure the division two title for Bocking Boules.

In their penultimate outing, Boules needed two points from their trip to second-placed Thorley to secure the top spot, but despite Blows winning his singles encounter, Bocking lost 2-1.

That left them needing to win their final fixture against Totham Swan to pip Thorley by a point.

In the triples, Callum Finn, Blows and Billy Williams started slowly against an accurate Swan triple, but they recovered to win 13-8.

Swan put the pressure on as Darren Hutchins and Finn then lost 13-8 in the pairs, but Blows took on Swan skipper Steve Read in the deciding and final game of the season.

Both pointed well before Blows opened a small lead and went on to take the game 13-8 to give Boules the title by a single point.

Meanwhile, Blackwater U3A won 2-1 at Wethersfield Jetts to secure third place, while Wethersfield Hopps had Kim Speed winning the singles in a 2-1 win against the Swan.
