BRAINTREE Town will keep doing the same things that have brought them success since manager Hakan Hayrettin took charge of the Iron when they host Vanarama National League leaders Lincoln City tonight.

The visit of the Imps (kick-off 7.45pm) will see former Braintree boss Danny Cowley make a first return to Cressing Road in charge of his current side and there is set to be plenty of focus on his team.

Their trip to Braintree is their last game ahead of an FA Cup quarter-final at the home of Premier League giants Arsenal on Saturday so there could be national scrutiny of them and their management team.

However, Hayrettin won't allow his team to get caught up in any of that and knows their own preparations have to have them focusing on themselves rather than anything Cowley and his players do.

“We just have to do what we have to do in the same way that we have since I’ve come in here," said Hayrettin.

“It’s all about us.

“I’ll keep them focused in the same way that I have since I came in.

“We are a part-time club playing against full-time players and we only get a chance to see our players maybe four or five hours a week.

“They get the opportunity to work with their players a lot longer than that so we can only do what we can do.

“In the short space of time that we have got with them we’ll have to try to get as much information into them as possible to try to take it forward.

“That’s the best that we can do.

“That’s why I believe we need to stick to a structure."

The visit of Lincoln will see Braintree facing the same opponents that they did in Hayrettin's first game in charge in October.

They lost 3-0 that day as they stayed in the National League's relegation places, but the Iron have worked hard to lift themselves out of the bottom four since then and give themselves a good chance of staying in the league this year.

Hayrettin added: “How many points did we have when I turned up?

“Nine. And how many do we have now? 41.

“Where were we in the league back then and where are we now?

“I think we’ve improved as a team; we’ve come a long way.

“We just have to stay up and we’ll have done our jobs.

“We have done fantastically well with this bunch of boys.

“We don’t have any socks to pull up as our budget is the lowest in the league and everyone knows that.

“We are a part-time team and we are competing against the likes of Lincoln.

“We are doing half decent so we are doing fantastically well.

“The biggest thing for this football club is its status.

“However it is achieved, it’s achieved and we can look at going forward afterwards, but I think the boys have done fantastically well."

Chez Isaac may be suspended for tonight's game after totting up cautions during the season.
