JEROME Okimo admitted that he didn’t get a chance to take any pleasure from opening his goal-scoring account for Braintree Town.

The Iron full-back grabbed his first goal for the club since joining last summer as he headed in a first-half equaliser in their FA Trophy third round replay at Dulwich Hamlet.

However, the fact that they ended up slumping to a disappointing 5-2 defeat after the break meant the former Stevenage man wasn’t going to revel in his own personal glory and he admitted that it was a poor show from the Iron in that second half in South London.

“It was nice to score, but I’m not enjoying that one at all,” said Okimo.

“I can’t do that with how the game ended.

“It was just one of those games and you have to say it was poor all round.

“We should have done better, but we just weren’t good enough.

“We had a few chances, but they seemed to break from our chances for their goals in that second half and it was poor.”

Braintree will hope to pick themselves up when they return to Vanarama National League duties on Saturday when they resume their battle to stay clear of the relegation places by hosting a North Ferriby side who are currently lodged in that drop zone.

Okimo added: “We just have to put the Trophy game to bed and move on now.

“That’s basically it - all we can do is concentrate on the next game.

“It’s a game at a time so we have to forget this one because the league is the most important thing for us.

“It’s a massive game for us on Saturday and we need the three points.

“The way I see it, it’s just another three points but we do need to win it.”
