BRAINTREE Chess Club's B team had a remarkable win in the North Essex Chess League knockout competition.
As the only division two team remaining in the competition, they beat Chelmsford A from division one, without losing on any board.
The Chelmsford team had two Russian players, but Tom Delieu beat Egor Latypov and Kenn Butcher beat Alexander Berdnik.
Also, Gerald Conley won against Peter Brander although perhaps best of all was Wayland Medlycott's solid draw against Chelmsford's top man, Russell White.
So the final result was a win by 3½-½ for Braintree and, although Braintree A were knocked out in an earlier round, the B team now go through to the semi-finals.
