PHILLIP Musgrove and Nigel Thurley won the penultimate round of the Winter League at Braintree Golf Club.

Musgrove, playing off 16, and 17-handicapper Thurley ran up 46 points in the three-clubs-plus-putter competition to finish a point ahead of the field.

There was a countback on 45 points to decide the other places, with Steve Weight (10) and Chris Green (18) taking second spot ahead of Mark Reeves (5) and David Bright (12).

With the final round set for this weekend, Andy Fowler and Lee Collis head the league on 107 points, 20 ahead of Andy Goldsmith and Richard Mitchell.

The ladies’ nine hole Stableford saw Janet White, off 17 handicap, emerge victorious with 19 points.

She finished one ahead of Cyd Rodford (18) while there was a countback for third place on 17 points, with the decision going to Ann Evelyn Salmon (31) ahead of Julie Race (9) in fourth and Jennifer Day (25) in fifth.
