THE last matches of 2016 have been played and it is Cressing A who go into the New Year leading the Braintree Open Darts League's pairs, triples and overall standings.

Te Retreat top the singles table and Swiss Bell are well in front in the ladies' competition.

Legends opened up a 4-1 league advantage in their match against the Retreat with a 3-0 win in the pairs followed by a draw in the triples.

The Retreats' Andy Camp and Ryan Smith won the opening two singles to bring the visitors back into the match and with honours shared in the next two, Legends were looking for two more wins to secure the match.

Chris Holden's 2-1 win followed by Dan Taylor's win gave Legends the match but with the singles still to be decided Steve O'Neil stepped up to the oche and took a 2-0 win to secure the singles points for the Retreat.

Cressing A were at home against Braintree Football Club and were soon in command.

The hosts claimed the pairs 3-0 and triples, then followed that up with a 6-1 win in the singles to secure all the competition points.

Bocking opened their account against the Eagle B with a 2-1 win in the pairs but with the Eagle winning the triples, it was them who had a slight match advantage going into the singles.

Bocking's Colin Barnard, Dave Joyce and Jimmy Kiddle won the opening three games but a 2-1 win for the Eagle's Andy Smith halted Bocking's run.

Jacko Everard secured the singles for Bocking, though, with a 2-0 win in the fifth but with the Eagle's Alex Chandler winning the sixth, the match outcome hinged on the final game.

Phil Watkins and the Eagle's Terry Corder came to the board, with a 2-0 win for Watkins delivering match points to Bocking.

The Eagle A hosted Swiss Bell and after the home team won the pairs 2-1 they found themselves behind in the overall match after the Swiss won the triples.

Jackie Brighton's 2-0 win put the visitors further ahead but with Paul Little and Barry Old winning the next two for the Eagle the overall match was all-square.

That was to be the end of the Eagle's challenge, though, as Tony Holland, Barry Lynn and Rob Watson wrapped things up for the Bell.

Horse and Groom hosted Wethersfield Raiders and soon found themselves behind with a 3-0 loss in the pairs and a draw in the triples.

Wethersfield continued their raid by winning the opening three singles before the Groom came back with wins for Jake Newlove, Nat Hammond and Mark Cook.

That left the match and singles outcome resting on the final game between Jacki Ryder and Rob Camp, with a 2-0 win for Camp delivering the points to the Raiders.

Chris Holden, Chris Cook, Mick Cain, Bex Farmer and Barry Lynn all hit 180s, while and Wayne Goodwin got two and in the men's high shot out competition, Holden hit a 102 and Andi Thomas a 99 and 110.
