WIVENHOE TOWN produced a performance befitting of the occasion as they stormed back from behind to draw 3-3 with Saffron Walden.

It was a special day for the Dragons as the club’s youth section were officially presented with their FA Charter Standard award.

Their young players, parents and guardians were invited along and events went on before the game and at half-time to celebrate in style.

At one point, however, it looked like Saturday’s result might dampen the occasion as Saffron Walden stormed into a 3-0 lead.

The Bloods pounced on a defensive lapse to open the scoring.

They then added a second before a great finish put them three-up at the break.

Wivenhoe were not prepared to roll over, though, and Adam Hampson sparked the comeback after a Miguel Nydam corner.

Hampson then turned provider for Matthew Eve to trim the deficit before hero Hampson grabbed a late leveller for 3-3.

Elsewhere, STANWAY ROVERS stay second but were held to a 1-1 draw at Ely City.

They were pegged back after taking the lead through Tyler Kemp.

However, they are now unbeaten in 14 league games, since losing way back in mid-August.

FC CLACTON were also pegged back and held to a 2-2 draw at Haverhill Rovers.

Kieron Shelley’s side were hoping to build on last week’s opening victory of the season, when they pipped fellow strugglers Swaffham Town 1-0.

And they looked on course for back-to-back victories after racing into a 2-0 lead.

Kalon Harms put them in front after great work from Michael Brothers and Wayne Blackman added a second for the Seasiders.

However, it proved a game of two halves as the hosts pulled one back after the break and then went on to equalise.

Matt Stace’s sending-off proved a pivotal moment in the game and the catalyst for Haverhill’s fightback.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC were hoping to gain quick revenge for last week’s defeat at Kirkley and Pakefield but they ended up losing 3-2 in the rematch with the Royals.

First division leaders COGGESHALL TOWN ran out 5-3 winners in a goal-fest at BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES.

HOLLAND FC pipped King’s Lynn Reserves 1-0 at the Rush Green Bowl while HALSTEAD TOWN and lowly March Town United drew 1-1.

March took the lead with a spectacular long-range effort but the below-par Humbugs equalised when Cameron Storie turned in Marcus Warren’s free-kick.
