WITHAM Town manager Adam Flint says his side won’t be affected by the occasion when they face Biggleswade Town in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

Town travel to the Carlsberg Stadium in Bedfordshire to face the Waders, who play in the Southern League premier division.

He said: “They are in the league above but we will go there to try and win.

“When we have played better sides in pre-season and in friendlies, we have tended to do quite well.

“We will go there confident and hopefully we can get a result.”

Witham currently sit 16th in Ryman League division north after a tricky run of games which left them sitting poised just above the relegation zone.

After getting back to winning ways in a friendly with Bishop's Stortford last week, they beat Romford 2-0 on Saturday before going down 2-1 at Tilbury on Tuesday (see page 39).

And with a few key players to return soon from injury, Flint feels the club are back on the right track to where they need to be.

He said: “I don’t think the season is going badly.

“We have let a few points slip where we deserved to win games, but we are not far off where we need to be.

“We have a few games in hand and if we can get a few results it will bring us away from the relegation zone.

"If we can be top 10 by Christmas we will be happy.”

The cup competition brings a different challenge, however, and Flint says his side won’t be taking anything for granted.

He said: “I do not know much about them but I know they play in the league above us.

“They will be well organised and I know the pitch at their ground is good, but our boys prefer playing on nice pitches.

“It could be a good occasion and there is a financial incentive, which of course really helps clubs like us.

“The league is our bread and butter but it will be interesting to see how far we can go in the competition.

“We will just take every game as it comes whether in the league or the cup.

“The cup gives us the chance to play against some good sides, although of course there aren’t bad teams in our league.

“We will go there and give it our best shot.”
