THE destination of the Essex Invitation Petanque Summer League title went to the final game of the season.

Three Elms B hosted Thorley needing at least a point to take the title.

In the triples Paul Charman, Viktor Zsarecz and Dave Riby shared the early points with Ken Kilbey, Doreen Butcher and Jon Sellar.

At 8-7, the home side did well to open the head and Charman played the last two boules to make five and take the game. At this stage, only two heavy defeats in the pairs and singles could deny the Elms and hand the title to the Onley Arms.

In the singles, Zsarecz led Kilbey 6-1 but the Thorley player upped his game to win 13-6.

The points gained by Zsarecz were enough to secure the title but Riby and Charman ensured a one-point gap at the top of the table by beating Sellar and Butcher, 13-7.

The Essex Invitational KO Plate Final proved an easy night's work for Bocking BAH in their first season as a team.

They faced the experienced Onley Arms at the Bocking piste.

Callum Finn, Geoff Cock and Pam Adams were first up for the Horses and during a convincing win for the triples, they took the game 13-5.

Mark Williams and Paul Griffin were up next in the doubles, taking the game 13-3 and the overall KO plate final for the Horses.

Consolation came for Trevor Blows in the singles after he beat Pat Brown, 13-10.

The Essex Invitation Petanque Winter League has kicked off with 12 teams including newcomers Wethersfield.

Their two teams had mixed fortunes.

The Jetts hosted summer league winners Three Elms and it was the visitors who went away with all three league points. The Hopps managed a good 2-1 win over the experienced Bocking Spinners team.

Kim Speed beating Richard Tite 13-6 in the deciding singles after Geoff Cockwell, Carolyn Acland and Karen Wade had taken their first point in the triples.

Blackwater U3A visited Bocking Boules and won 2-1.

Blackwater took the triples 13-6 and the pairs 13-12 in a game that Bocking had their chances.

Trevor Blows took the point for Boules with a 13-1 singles win over Ron Martin.

Bocking Poachers went to Billericay Lakes and gained an excellent 3-0 win.
