Hakan Hayrettin admits that he has a long list of players he would like to bring in at Braintree Town if the current squad don't match his expectations of them.

The former Luton Town coach and Grays Athletic and Thurrock manager has taken the Iron helm following the departure of Jamie Day last weekend, with his first game in charge set to be Saturday's Vanarama National League trip to Lincoln City.

Hayrettin met his new team for the first time on Tuesday and left his players in no doubt about what he expects from them.

"Whenever I've played anywhere or managed a team, I've always got upset when a player hasn't typified what I'm about," he said.

"I try to carry that ethos wherever I have gone, whether that was as a coach at Luton or working with kids at Watford.

"You aren't going to get everyone with the same character but what you can do is get them to understand what is required.

"If they know their job and do their job, then there's no problem.

"I said to the boys when I met them on Tuesday: they don't have to be the best player, they don't have to be in the best team - they just have to be in the winning team.

"How we do that is down to us.

"We will have a structure and will do things so that everyone will know their job and there will be no grey areas.

"It's fair that people are given an opportunity, but on my travels this year, I've been doing a lot of scouting and I have a list of players as long as my arm who I've already identified.

"I've spoken to the chairman about that and it's not necessarily that we'll be bringing players in but if the right players are available and we need to change it then we will do.

"There are no grey areas because the status of this football club is the most important thing.

"It's not about me or them, it's about us collectively doing what's right and working closely together with the people at this club to make sure we do the right things."
