ADAM Flint wants his young Witham Town players to find their killer instinct as they look to rediscover the winning touch in Ryman League division north.

Having won four and drawn one of their opening six league games this season, Witham have since drawn one and lost two of the next three.

Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Cheshunt, they were held to a 2-2 draw by Aveley – having led with five minutes to go – and saw a lead overturned in a 2-1 defeat by Dereham Town in midweek.

It has been frustrating for boss Flint as he has seen his team battle themselves into good positions only to see their hard work undone and he wants them to find a tougher mentality to see out games.

He said: “We look so much better going forward than we did last season, but we just can’t see the game out at the moment.

“I’m sure it will come, though.

“We haven’t really clicked yet.

“There are some where we’ve played really well and won, but I don’t feel that we’ve really clicked yet.

“So there is a lot of work still to be done with training and getting their mentalities right.

“I think that’s the thing.

“The whole team is very young and the keeper Lewis (Snelgrove) is the oldest at 27.

“They are a young side at this level and when you don’t kill teams off, they are always in the game.

“It’s something that we’re learning as a management team, how to handle the mentality of the players – when to build them up and when to have a pop at them.

“We’ve not won in four games now and we’ve said to the players that we need to snap out of it.

“But it’s only two league games and I’m sure it will come.

“We have to just keep grinding away.”

Flint said he expected Ryan Charles to be fit for the trip to Cheshunt on Saturday after he returned from a foot injury as a substitute against Dereham on Tuesday.

Usman Adeniji should also be ready to come back after picking up a hamstring strain at Maldon & Tiptree last week, but Ryan Imbert is set to be unavailable.
