WITHAM Town manager Adam Flint felt his players didn’t get what they deserved from their Ryman League division north trip to local rivals Maldon and Tiptree.

Flint was frustrated by an under par Witham display that saw them crash out of the FA Cup with a 3-1 defeat at Beaconsfield SYCOB on Saturday.

So he was pleased to see a positive and hard-working response at Maldon, however, it was the hosts who took the points and the Town boss felt his team deserved greater reward for their endeavours. He said: “I was pleased to get a response after the FA Cup game.

“We hustled the ball against Maldon and that was something we didn’t have at Beaconsfield.

“If we play like that every week, then we’ll hammer some teams but it just didn’t go for us.

“That was hard to take as I felt we deserved more. It was a much better performance than we had in the FA Cup on Saturday.

“Maldon are a team who pass the ball very well, but I felt it was us who got the ball down and passed it in this game.

“We hustled them really well and they had to go long, which is not the way that Maldon play.

“I told the players that I was proud of them.

“Look at the resources that Maldon have got and I felt bad that our boys had lost because I didn’t think it was fair.

“A fair result was probably two-all although I think we probably should have won.

“We’ll take the experience from it knowing we need to see games out, but I thought a draw would have been fair.

“However, if we play like that every week, we will be up there.”

Witham had won their previous four league games before their trip to Maldon and will look to get back to winning ways when they host Aveley at the Village Glass Stadium tomorrow before another home game against Dereham Town on Tuesday.

Flint said Usman Adeniji may be a doubt for the game against Aveley after coming off with a hamstring twinge against Maldon, while Lance Akin had a thigh strain and Damien Greene had an Achilles problem.

However, John Watson is back available after playing for Witham Reserves in midweek.
