RECENT action has brought about the most successful period in Braintree Bowling Club's recent history, with County Trophy honours, North West Essex League honours and a fifth individual internal club competition victory.

It started with Chris Long, Graham Easterbrook and Martin Spencer winning the North West Essex League Triples Trophy against Radwinter.

The final internal club competition, The Hunnable Cup, then matched Easterbrook and Spencer and ended with Spencer taking his fifth club title of the year with a 21-15 victory.

There was then success in the County Double Fours for Braintree.

Their Double Fours teams became the 2016 county champions in this Essex competition with a 37-31 victory over Bournemouth Park Bowling Club from Southend.

Braintree's team one comprised Chris Long, Malcolm Stark, Brian Taplin and Spencer, with team two of Rob Doleman, David Hunt, Easterbrook and captain Josh Heffernan.

It is the first time that Braintree have won this trophy, with the closest they had come before being in 1995 when they finished as runners-up.

While this game was taking place, Braintree's North West League B team were winning their Division B grand final against Saffron Walden at Witham, triumphing two rinks to one.

The Braintree team included George Carter, Tony Heales, Jack Mumford, Andy Beatty, Barry Jowett, Tony Butcher, Albie Ayres, Lyndon Hopkins and Graham Michaels.
