WITHAM Town will take some “Sunday League mentality” to Beaconsfield SYCOB tomorrow when they continue their journey in this year’s FA Cup.

Having struggled for form throughout most of last year, Witham have hit the ground running this time around and head into Saturday’s FA Cup second qualifying round tie at Beaconsfield SYCOB, sitting fourth in the Ryman League division north.

They moved into the top four with a 2-1 win against Ware last weekend, although they saw their six-game winning run halted as a changed side lost 3-0 at Bowers and Pitsea in the Alan Turvey Trophy in midweek.

Despite that loss, manager Adam Flint is pleased with the strong start his team have made and feels there is a strength of spirit within his squad that he has witnessed while managing in Sunday League football.

And he is keen to continue tapping into that unique brand of camaraderie.

He said: “The way we celebrated at the end of the game against Ware last week shows that we are a proper team.

“The lads celebrated with the supporters and people have commented on how we look like a real team now.

“We’ve been on a good run and we just want to keep things going.

“I’ve come in from being the manager of a Sunday League side with Priory when we always went into games looking to win and maybe there is some of that Sunday League mentality in our team now.

“There is a never-say-die attitude and that’s great to see.

“The club got 42 points last season and we’re already on 13, but we haven’t changed our targets.

“We had a vision at the start of the season that if we could be in the top ten at Christmas then we could see where we’d go from there, but we’re not getting ahead of ourselves.

“We have to keep breaking it down.

“I don’t look to see who we have got in two weeks time as I’m fully focused on what’s immediately ahead of us.

“We’re only six games in and we have to keep feet on the ground.”
