Braintree Town may have been boosted by their impressive 2-1 win at Sutton United on Tuesday, but manager Jamie Day is still concerned that his team are having to battle back after falling behind in games.

At Sutton, they once again conceded the first goal and even though his players showed good fortitude to come back and take the win, Day is keen for them to get on the front foot earlier in games - starting at Chester tomorrow.

He said: “It’s important for us to be getting the first goal in games so we have something to work with.

“We’ve been conceding first and always having to claw games back.

“So we need better starts.

“We’ve been making too many individual errors and getting punished for it and that’s not good enough.

“When you are in a situation where the chips are down, you need people pulling together and being a hard team to beat.

“At times we haven’t been a hard enough team to beat.”

Braintree will be looking for a strong start when they head to Chester tomorrow, but one player who is definitely unlikely to be involved is Jack Midson, who is still coming back from a knee problem and Day is prepared to be patient in his wait for his striker.

The boss said: “We’ll have another look at Jack at training as he’s now started jogging again, but I’m pretty sure he won’t be involved on Saturday.

“We want to get him back in as we need his experience, but you can’t rush players back and we will make sure he’s 100 per cent before he comes back in.”
