BRAINTREE Rugby Club joint coach Brian Joslin was delighted to see his team make a winning start to their season with a 37-15 Essex League victory at Harwich and Dovercourt.
Despite having their pre-season preparations hampered by opponents not being able to fulfil fixtures, Braintree hit the ground running with an impressive first-half performance.
Joslin said: “The lads put in a great shift and we fully deserved to win, but we dropped off the pace in the second half, possibly due to lack of match fitness.
“There were lots more positives than negatives from the game but we still have loads to work on.
“Steve Sewell and Max Turner had great games for us but nobody let themselves down and they all know we’ve got a strong second string who will be pushing them all the way.”
Braintree are due to host South Ockendon-based Thames in the Essex RFU President’s Shield at Robbs Wood on Saturday.
They then return to Essex League action the following weekend when they head to Burnham-on-Crouch.
