A TRIO from Bardfield took overall honours as the Onley Arms Petanque Club celebrated its 40th anniversary with a triples competition at Stisted Village Hall.
The club is the oldest in Essex and welcomed teams from around the county.
Following the morning's round-robin, the main competition semi-finals saw the Wethersfield A team of Terry Williams, Kim Speed and Geoff Cockwell beat a Wethersfield B team skippered by Terry Whiting 13-3.
Bardfield progressed to the final as Ian Ruffle, Carolynne Ruffle and Dan Blows had a 13-11 win against Tracey Austin, Jenny Suckling and Ernie Botley and they went on to beat the Wethersfield A trio 13-3 as Blows showed outstanding shooting form.
Toppesfield - Sheila, Braithwaite, Malcolm Braithwaite and Dave Bird - took the Plate competition by beating Thorley 13-9 in the final.
