JAMIE Day says he wants to see a reaction from his BRAINTREE TOWN side at Maidstone United tonight in the wake of their first defeat of the season.

The Iron will be hoping to bounce back from their disappointed 3-1 home loss at the hands of Macclesfield Town with a positive result against the Stones, at the Gallagher Stadium.

Lee Barnard’s second goal in as many games in the National League proved only a consolation against the Silkman and boss Day wants to see an immediate response from his players.

Day said: “We need a reaction now for Tuesday.

“We’re not going to go through the whole season not losing – we’re going to get beaten and there are going to be performances like this.

“Ideally, you’d like it to have happened a little bit later in the season but for me, it will show our character to bounce back on Tuesday night and see what the boys are made of – that could work in our favour.

“I’m pleased Lee Barnard scored and their keeper pulled off two good saves from Simeon (Akinola) but we didn’t do enough to win the game or even get back into it.

“We need to be a bit more positive in our play and work the keeper more.”

Day is on the hunt for a new goalkeeper for tonight’s game, with Jamie Butler banned for the trip to Maidstone.

Butler was shown a straight red card for a foul in the closing stages of the Macclesfield defeat and with back-up shot-stopper Sam Cowler injured, the Iron are short of keeper options.

“Now we don’t have a keeper for Tuesday night and we’ll have to look at getting someone in from a pro club to help us out,” added Day.

“The way Jamie plays, he plays a high line.

“Anyone who saw him play last year knows that he plays ten or 15 yards behind the back four.

“He’s a good sweeper but when that doesn’t come off, this sort of thing happens.”
