BRAINTREE Bowmen member Steve Fry struck gold in two different sports at the Westfield Health British Transplant Games.

Steve Fry, who overcame serious illness and had a kidney transplant four years ago, represented Addenbrookes Hospital at the prestigious event in Liverpool.

And he returned home after winning gold medals in both archery and volleyball.

"I'm delighted with my performance, all thanks due to my live donor and the support of my family,” said Fry, who lives in Sudbury.

Over 900 participants competed at the Games.

Lynne Holt, from the charity Transplant Sport (TSUK), which organises the event, said: "The annual British Transplant Games showcase the benefits of transplantation, which would not have been possible without donor families' decision to choose organ donation during a very difficult and tragic time."

In addition to being a celebration of life, they raise awareness of organ donation, adding tens of thousands of new signatures to the organ donor register.
