Manager Jamie Day is hoping his Braintree Town squad will be completed by Zach Fagan and Isaac Galliford accepting offers that the club will be making to them.

The pair have impressed the Iron boss while on trial during their pre-season preparations and he said he is now ready to complete his squad.

Day said: “We are making offers to both Zac Fagan and Isaac Galliford and hopefully they’ll be signing on non-contract terms.

"That would bring the squad up to 18 if they agree, but we are making offers to them.”

The Iron boss sees both playing a part in his midfield plans, with 19-year-old former Luton Town youngster Galliford operating on the left wing and ex-Arsenal trainee Fagan playing a defensive role similar to the one Matt Paine had at Braintree last year.

Day added: “Isaac is a left-sided midfielder and Zach is more of a centre-half who can play in central midfield.

“He can play in a deeper midfield position in front of the back four and Continued on page 46 that’s how I had him when we were at Welling.

“I think that would be it for the squad if they do sign on, but we do have a little spare money in the budget in case anyone else did come available who we wanted to have a look at.

“But I’m happy with the boys we’ve got in.

“Off the pitch they are all getting on well and they all know what is expected.

“We’re seeing little friendships being built up off the pitch as well as on it and they have all been working their socks off.

“They’ve all done everything that I’ve asked of them.

“We have goals in us and we have a lot of pace in the team so I’m sure we will open teams up.

“Sometimes we look vulnerable going the other way, but we have been working on that.

“Improvement at set pieces comes with playing against better teams as well, but we’ve been working on that area as well.

“In every session we’ve had with the boys, we have been looking at the shape as we have a squad of players who are still working each other’s games out.”
