THE quarter-finals of the Essex County Bowling Association County Fours were held at Witham Bowls Club.

It was was very competitive evening and one game carried on until nearly 10pm between Harlow and Essex County, with Harlow winning on the extra end 17-16.

Meanwhile, Witham beat Southend by four shots, with the top rink being skip Lennie Foyster, Jenny McDonald, Gordon Barrett and Norman.

In the North West Essex League, Witham's A team won 8-0 against Bocking, the B team lost 8-0 to Tiptree and the C team won 6-2 against Bocking B.

The North West Essex ladies bounced back from a defeat by Bocking with a win against Silver Ladies by nine shots.

The Central Midweek Bowling League saw Witham's A and B teams both win 8-0, but in the Central Midweek Bowling League Knockout, the A team lost to a very strong team from Great Baddow at home and away.

In the unbadged competition, Philip Helps was beaten in the fourth round after a good run.

Witham's club competitions are now under way with success from some new members.
