THE Top Lake at Rayne Lodge is very well stocked and that provided good sport and weights for the 19 Braintree and Bocking Angling Society members who filled the lake for the first round of the Regan Cup.

The result was very close and a fish landed or lost certainly decided the outcome.

Danny Mason drew peg four and fished a variety of baits in the margin for the bulk of his match-winning 171-0-0.

John Downham, on peg nine, took the shallow approach and came up just 1lb short with 170-0-0 for second and won section two.

Sections (excluding winner): 1 G Spong 62-0-0, 2 J Downham, 3 J Loosley 94-0-0, 4 A Luetchford 80-8-0.

The Friday Notley Sweep resulted in a second win in as many weeks for Jim Loosley, as he landed one carp with F1s and skimmers for 18-12-0.

John Daniels had three carp for 12-0-0 and second.

Local rod Reece Hearn (Maver/Image) travelled to Monk Lakes in Kent to fish a qualifier for the £70,000 Maver Match contest along with more than 100 other hopefuls.

He won his lake with 175-12-0, but each of the other two lakes had provided a big weight and he had to settle for third as the top two had 198lbs and 191lbs, with only one to qualify for the final.
