ALEX Lynn is hoping that a familiar venue proves to be a happy hunting ground again as he returns to the the Red Bull Ring in Austria for the next stage in his quest for the 2016 GP2 Series title.

The 22-year-old racing driver from Dunmow had a disappointing time at the last round two weeks ago as his first visit to Baku in Azerbaijan saw him come away with no points, but he knows the Red Bull Ring well and has enjoyed considerable success at the circuit in Spielberg on past visits.

So he is hoping to continue that run this weekend with the DAMS Racing team as he knows picking up points consistently through the season will be vital in his GP2 title bid as he looks to strengthen his bid for a race seat in Formula One next year.

Lynn, who is also development driver with the Williams Martini Racing F1 team, told the Braintree and Witham Times: “Consistency is key, so we need to put in some good performances to win the points.

"It’s very close this year so gaining points at each round is really important.

“It was a difficult weekend for sure in Baku but I’ve been working hard with the DAMS team in France ready for this weekend at Spielberg and I feel like we are fully prepared.

"I’ve enjoyed racing at the Red Bull ring, winning there in GP3 and being on the podium again last year in GP2, so I’m hoping to build on that success.

"It’s really important to bounce back now.

"Obviously Baku didn’t go completely to plan for us, but a lot of the top drivers were in a similar position so it’s not put me out of title contention.

"So this weekend is about focusing and getting some points on the board."

GP2 qualifying in Austria is due to take place at 2.55pm (British time) on Friday, with the feature race at 2.35pm on Saturday and the sprint event at 9.25am on Sunday.
