Braintree Town manager Jamie Day has bolstered his midfield with the signing of former Leyton Orient youngster Harry Lee.

The 21-year-old has become the latest recruit that Day has brought in to join the Iron after following Barney Williams in signing from Welling United.

Lee, who plays in the centre of midfield, began his career as a trainee at Leyton Orient and made seven appearances for the O's before heading on loan to Welling and then joining the Wings on a permanent basis in January.

He turned out 31 times for Welling last season, including twice against Braintree in the Vanarama National League.

Day said he was looking forward to working with the youngster who he felt would "bring good quality in midfield".

The Braintree boss has also brought in a defender from a Football League club, but details of his identity won't be revealed until the player's contract at his former employers has run out at the end of July.

The club are also close to signing a new goalkeeper.

Chairman Lee Harding told the Braintree and Witham Times: "We are closing in on signing a keeper but we are having to wait for paperwork to clear before we can properly announce it.

"A transfer fee will be involved for him."

However, moving in the opposite direction is likely to be Mitch Brundle as the versatile Iron midfielder looks set for an exit from the Avanti Stadium this summer.

He has accepted an offer from another club and Harding confirmed that the two clubs were in negotiations over compensation.

Meanwhile, Harding said the club had been delighted with how season ticket sales had been going.

Hundreds of fans have taken advantage of cut-price adult season tickets this summer and the numbers were now being boosted further by younger supporters taking advantage of free season passes for under-18s.

Harding said almost 600 season tickets had been snapped up and he expected that figure to continue rising as the offer for free under-18 tickets was still available.
