PETER Hunt was victorious as Braintree and Bocking Angling Society fished their first club match of the season - the Society Cup.

It was held on the Kelvedon Club's water at Layer Marney and while the water has not been in good form for matches recently, it fared as well as most club waters in the event.

Hunt landed four of the bream on tip and pole tactics, which together with a few roach, gave him a winning total of 11-14-0 to lift the cup.

Match Secretary Jim Loosley caught some small roach and bream throughout the match to weigh 10-2-0 in second and Gary Spong landed a tench and one bream for the bulk of his third placed 7-13-0.

The fifth round of the Braintree Club's Evening Match Series was almost a non-event as only three were able to attend, but it turned out to be a good evening weather-wise and also gave some good fishing, with bites throughout the match.

Spong took the spoils with a level 20-0-0.

He had one 6lb carp and the other 14-0-0 were in F1s, roach, rudd and skimmers, but he was only eight ounces ahead of Loosley, who lost an F1 on the whistle.

Friday's Notley match saw Chris Orrin land six carp for a match-winning 27-10-0.

Sections (excluding winner): 1 M. Orrin 15-7-0, 2 Penny Turner 12-0-0.
