BRAINTREE Bullets BMX Club have increased their lead in the East Anglian Championships following an excellent showing on home soil.

They used their home track to full advantage in round five to increase their lead to 42 points in the standings.

The Bullets boasted nearly 60 entries at the competition and Louis Dell got them off to a winning start in the seven and under novice class.

He was unbeaten all day in the class but club-mate Seth Abbey kept him honest, chasing Dell down in his first-ever BMX race meeting.

In the expert classes and the six and unders, Bullets riders took the top honours.

Olly Cates claimed the overall win after capitalising on Heath Thomas's misfortune when he crashed in the first heat.

In the eights, Freia Challis showed the boys a few tricks as she dominated the class.

She had to fight for it after not getting off to the best of starts but dug deep and made the pass that got her the win.

Another dominant class victory for the Bullets came in the tens.

Josh Cates is always a contender on his home track and when the gate dropped on the final, he went on to be unbeaten all day.

After his win in the cruiser class earlier in the day, Adam Gilbert did the double in the 11-12s class.

He looked confident as ever and romped home with yet another clean sheet.

Another class victory for the Bullets came in the 16s for Matt Goodwins.

He was consistent through all his heats to take the overall win from second-placed Hayden Challis.

The next big winner for the Bullets was Christian White in the 17-24 class.

White is only 15 and was riding up two age groups, against strong competition.

The Shalford local powered away from the start in all of his heats and the final and showed the competition a clean pair of wheels throughout the day.

The final class on track was the Superclass, which featured five Bullets amongst battling to be top dog.

It was all races to count for the overall win and consistency was key.

The class gave the crowds a great show of bike handling and Shane Redgewell took the overall victory.

The Bullets home club series continues on Wednesdays at their Deanery Hill track.
