BRAINTREE Boxing Club's Tyler Harvey, Shane Pavitt and Danny Mitchell all donned the black and white vest at the Sudbury ABC Open Show and engaged in some thrilling bouts.

Harvey was matched against an older boxer in Jamal Egbe from Welwyn Garden City as he made his first appearance in competition for almost 12 months.

The Braintree boxer acquitted himself well throughout a fast-paced and intense bout, with both boxers trading hard shots from the beginning to the end.

Egbe was caught on the inside by several hard hooks from the tenacious Harvey, but the Welwyn fighter managed to score points from range and was awarded a close decision.

Next up for Braintree was Shane Pavitt, who in only his ninth bout was matched against the vastly more experienced Kasey Bradnum from Harwich ABC.

In a ferocious first round, Pavitt immediately looked to land his quick jab and force the technical Bradnum backwards and on to the defensive.

To counter this, Bradnum threw some great combinations that momentarily stopped the Braintree boxer, however, Pavitt used his speed to catch his opponent with a solid right hand that landed flush to the head.

The second round was also fought at a great pace with both boxers demonstrating excellent resilience.

Pavitt again landed a thudding right cross to Bradnum’s head that sent him backwards into the ropes and followed it up with some great body shots that appeared to trouble the Harwich boxer.

Round three saw Pavitt in control but he was forced to bite down on his gum shield as Bradnum showed tremendous character in attacking him against the ropes.

Turning his opponent, though, Pavitt again worked the body and landed a hard combination as the bout finished.

The two boxers were a credit to their clubs, but Pavitt was awarded a fine victory via unanimous decision and continued his impressive form as he continued his preparations for the Haringey Box Cup at Alexandra Palace next month.

The third bout involved Essex champion Danny Mitchell as he faced off against Matthew Saunders of Chelmsford ABC. In a tough, back and forth contest, Mitchell appeared to do enough to gain the win but was unlucky to lose out on a split decision.

However, he demonstrated some great improvement and continued to develop his skills for the future.
