Following the departure of Danny Cowley as Braintree Town manager, the question on all Iron fans’ lips is: “Who’s next?”

Lee Harding has told the Braintree and Witham Times that he is hoping to make an announcement before the weekend and we’ve taken a look at a few of those who could be in the frame and the club may be talking to this week.

DINO MAAMRIA is someone who impressed at National League level last year and the former Stevenage assistant boss may be in the Iron board’s sights.

The Tunisian turned around a struggling Southport side who were in the relegation zone when he was appointed in November, winning seven games in a row and becoming Manager-of-the-Month in December.

Having set the Port on the road to league safety, he left due to family reasons, but Braintree would be much closer to his Hertfordshire base.

A name that has cropped up a few times in speculation is that of former Dagenham and Redbridge boss WAYNE BURNETT.

The ex-Huddersfield Town and Grimsby Town midfielder kept the Daggers in League Two as a caretaker after John Still’s departure to Luton Town in February 2013.

He then led them to ninth the following year and 14th in 2014/2015, but a poor start last season saw him depart in December.

A name that has also been put forward among fans is former England, Manchester United, Tottenham and West Ham striker TEDDY SHERINGHAM.

He had a spell as manager at Stevenage in League Two last season, but that ended after less than a year at the helm and he has had no experience of managing at Braintree’s level.

Another former England international and Premier League winner whose name has cropped up in at least one forum discussion is that of TIM FLOWERS.

The ex-Blackburn goalkeeper has coached alongside Stuart Pearce in the Football League, but his only National League managerial time to date was a very brief spell in charge of Kidderminster Harriers last season.

Someone who does have plenty of National League exposure would be JAMIE DAY though.

He impressed at that level in his time as Welling boss so knows the level well, he was assistant boss at Forest Green Rovers this year and the Times understands he was close to the Iron job before Cowley’s appointment.

However, Day’s boss at Forest Green, ADY PENNOCK, may be another name for the Iron board to consider after keeping the Gloucestershire club in the title race for much of the season before departing in the dying stages.

Harding has indicated that he won’t look at levels lower than Braintree for their next boss, but there are also a couple of possible candidates close to home should the urge have taken him and the board.

All-time Iron record appearance holder BRAD QUINTON has had two successful seasons in charge of Enfield Town in the Ryman League and after the appointment of Danny Cowley worked last time, Braintree may hope lightning strikes twice if they were to look at current Concord Rangers boss ADAM FLANAGAN.
