CANVEY Island and Aythorpe Roding produced a feast of runs on a good wicket at Aythorpe's Round Bush Green ground but it was visitors who won their T Rippon Mid-Essex League division one encounter by 94 runs.
Canvey batted first and were 85 for four as Danny Elsworth claimed three wickets and AJ Ford one, but an excellent performance from the middle order saw them finish on 301 for eight in their 45 overs.
Elsworth finished with figures of three for 76, Ford two for 65 and Tom Wharton one for 33.
Aythorpe's openers were in good form again in their reply, with skipper Sam Blackman making 39 and Richard Eaton 78 and the hosts were up with the run chase at 180 for five.
However, wickets fell at regular intervals and Aythorpe were all out for 207 in 41 overs as they felling 94 runs short. Aythorpe Roding travel to Springfield seconds on Saturday (1pm start).
