Witham Town manager Garry Kimble was left bitterly disappointed as his team capitulated in the second half of their Ryman League division north trip to Brightlingsea Regent.

Having looked the better side in the opening 45 minutes, Witham conceded four goals after the break to leave them on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline.

It meant Kimble’s team were unable to build on their 1-0 win against fellow strugglers Waltham Abbey last weekend and left Kimble frustrated.

Kimble said: “We just didn’t do the things that we had done in the first half after the break.

“For the first 45 minutes, I think it was some of the best football I’ve seen from us this year as we stood up to a man, however, in the second half, some of them thought the job had been done and that it was too easy for them.

“They let themselves down.

“We conceded a goal 45 seconds after our own kick-off at the start of the second half and I can’t have that.

“The players have to hold their hands up as some of them are just going through the motions.

“The club are sticking by me but it’s tough at the moment and we need results.

“I think we need three or four more wins to be safe this year, but I can’t tolerate another performance like the second half one at Brightlingsea.”

Witham will hope to bounce back when they head to third-placed Thurrock on Saturday.

Kimble added: “Last Saturday’s win against Waltham Abbey was a big one for us, but all the hard work of that was undone by that second half display against Brightlingsea.

“It all went out of the window and now this Saturday is a very big one for us.”
