Braintree Town manager Danny Cowley was pleased to see his team have all the ingredients they needed to dish up another important Vanarama National League three-point haul.

There was the sweet taste of success for the Iron as they backed up their midweek win against Wrexham with a 2-0 victory against Chester FC.

The game was once again played on a difficult surface and Cowley was happy to see that his players had the right approach.

He said: “I thought it was an excellent performance on another difficult pitch.

“You have to give credit to the players because playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday, with the last two of those games on that pitch of ours, is hard going.

“It needs an awful lot of mental and physical fitness and I thought we showed that in abundance.

“We had all the ingredients that you need if you want to be successful on a pitch like that.

“We had a lot of grit, were really resolute, disciplined and organised and the boys put the team before themselves.

“They did all the ugly little bits that need to be done if you are going to win football matches on that pitch.

“And to score two goals from set pieces was nice.”

The six points Braintree have taken in the last five days have carried them up to tenth in the league and within four points of the play-off places.

The latest three points came courtesy of goals from Mark Phillips and Matt Paine, with both being scored from corner routines.

A 14th clean sheet of the campaign also restored Braintree's place as having the joint-lowest goals against tally in the league.
