A host of glittering prizes were handed out when Braintree Golf Club held its annual presentation evening in the Stisted clubhouse.

With 110 members present, last year’s men’s, ladies’ and seniors’ competition winners collected silverware.

Pride of place went to the three Order of Merit winners, Antony Little (men), Jill Barke (ladies) and Phil Townsend (seniors).

Meanwhile, Braintree’s ladies eased through their first round match in the Mail on Sunday team event with a 4½–½ victory over Colne Valley at Stisted.

There were wins for Mary Goodwin, Ann Gisby, Toni Brockwell and Julie Race, while Jan White secured a half.

Low handicappers came to the fore in the weekend stableford competitions with Tony Craven winning the Saturday event with 39 points off a handicap of six.

Second was Mike Latta (8) with 38 points and Michael Webster (16) was third with 37.

Michael Jackson was on song in the Sunday competition but it needed a countback on 36 points before the 13-handicapper secured victory over Sean Kelly (6), with Stephen Smith (5) third on 35.

The seniors’ Team Stableford was won by Terry Barke, Keith Briggs and Greg North with 78 points, one better than Tony Mayo, Gordon Hewitt and John Gisby.

Mike Saffill, John Berry and Bob Race were third on 74.
