After a poor run of Essex Invitation Petanque League games, second-placed Bocking Spinners bounced back with a win at Three Elms A.

Christina Knights, Ian Ruffle and Trevor Turner took the triples 13-8 for the Spinners, before Richard Tite and Turner took the pairs 13-11 and Spinners secured maximum points when Malcolm Smith won 13-9 in the singles.

League leaders Onley Arms hosted league newcomers Little Totham Swan and sent them away on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline.

Trevor Blows was in good shooting form and he, Lorne Gibson and Beryl Gibson used all their experience to win 13-2 in th etriples.

In the doubles, the Gibsons took it 13-0 and while Darren Podger played well for the Swan in the singles, the experience of Blows showed again in a 13-7 win.

Billericay U3A hung on to third place despite a 2-1 defeat by Three Elms B.

Thorley visited Bocking for the second week running, this time to take on the Weavers. In the triples, Bocking’s Mark Williams, Geoff Cockell and Paul Griffin were beaten 13-5 and Darren Hutchins lost 13-8 in the singles, but David Adams and 14-year-old Callum Williams did give the Weavers a point with a 13-9 pairs success.
