Danny Cowley said he was pleased to see the disappointment in his Braintree Town players after they were held to a goalless draw by Torquay United.

The Iron had the better of the chances as they dominated possession at the Avanti Stadium over the 90 minutes of this Vanarana National League clash.

However, manager Cowley felt his team lacked the quality they needed in the final third on the day to unpick a resolute Torquay defence.

The visitors came into the game on the back of a run of just one win in their last 19 outings, so it was frustrating for the Iron, but Cowley said he was pleased with the reaction he saw afterwards from his players.

He said: “I know Torquay are having a difficult season but they are still a former Football League club and a full-time team.

“If you look at their squad, they have almost a thousand League appearances among them so they have good football players.

“I thought we asked a lot of questions of them and the fact that they left pleased with their point shows how far we have come as a team.

“And we are disappointed.

“I’m pleased to have gone in our changing room at the end and seen that our boys are disappointed.

“For me, it shows their ambition.

“It shows what they want to achieve this year.”
