Lee Townrow wants Witham Town’s younger players to put their trust in manager Garry Kimble as they look to climb the Ryman League division north table.

Townrow is one of a small number in Kimble’s squad who knows what success at the Village Glass Stadium feels like, having been a key part of the side that earned promotion to the premier division under the current boss two seasons ago.

But following their relegation last year and having to entirely rebuild the team since that, there are few remaining at the club who know what it takes to be fighting at the top of the league in a Witham shirt.

One constant in all of that is Kimble, though.

He admits that this season will be one to reconstruct and Townrow wants the younger members of the squad to place their trust in his leadership.

He said: “There are some older heads in the squad like myself, Paul White and John Watson and that core is really important.

“The younger players have to buy into it as well – like we all did previously.

“If they trust what Garry is doing and what we’re all doing here and stay together, then we’ll be absolutely fine.”

Witham are set to continue a run of four back-to-back home games this weekend when they host Romford in the league on Saturday (kick-off 3pm) before another fiixture at the Village Glass Stadium – against Redbridge – on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm).

Townrow, who has returned to Witham this year, said things are different from his previous spell at the club, but feels they are getting closer to where they want to be.

He added: “I think from the manager’s point of view, it’s still the same, with the same ideas.

“It’s just with different players so it will take a little bit of time.

“Before, we went into every game expecting to win it, now we know we are building something new so we know it will take a little bit of time.

“However, the confidence and the grit and determination that may have been missing is starting to get installed in the team now.

“I think it comes from having a more settled team as that gives you more confidence in each other.

“The younger lads are impressing me.

“Max (Bradford) did very well in the middle on Saturday after coming up quite a few levels to put in a very solid performance.

“If people carry on doing that and we keep improving, then there’s no reason why we can’t start climbing up the table.”
