Barrie Senior’s second-leg triumph wasn’t enough to overhaul Paul Drake’s first-leg lead in the overall standings of Braintree Sea Angling Club’s Mick Allen Shield.

Braintree’s members returned to Aldeburgh to fish the second leg of the shield and with the rain stopping just as the anglers arrived at the beach and the strong wind veering to a more westerly direction, casting was easier than anticipated.

Fish were caught regularly throughout the evening, with mainly whiting and some dabs and dogfish being caught, while Robin Joy landed the only cod.

At the end of the session, Senior took the match with 772 fish points from his catch of 44 whiting, seven dabs, two dogfish and a rockling.

Drake, winner of the first leg, was in second place with 50 whiting and a pout for 600 points, with third place going to Chris Leonard with 575 points from 33 whiting, six dabs and a dogfish.

Over the two legs, Drake’s total of 18 points just edged out Senior by one to take the cup.

Third place went to Leonard, with 15 points.
