Danny Cowley has spoken of the pride he has in his Braintree Town players after they once again demonstrated their willingness to put their bodies on the line for their club’s cause.

The Iron manager was impressed with the way that his battle-weary troops lifted themselves just 48 hours after a tiring FA Cup tie against Oxford United to secure a 1-1 Vanarama National League draw at Woking.

He said: “We were excellent and it’s probably the most proud I have been of the group.

“It was a 48-hour turnaround for us, while Woking had ten days to prepare for the game.

“All the time that we had was recovery time and it’s not enough.

“We had to go without six key players in Mark Phillips, Anthony Edgar, Simeon Akinola, Kenny Davis, Dan Sparkes and Michael Cheek.

“All of them were unavailable, but Cheeky went on the bench and came on late on because it was needs must, while Remy Clerima was another one who put his body on the line and started despite only being about 70 per cent fit.

“I was hugely proud of the boys and their willingness to put the team and the club before themselves.

“And to play the way that we did was incredible but we were out on our feet after 60 minutes.”
