Onley Arms’ Trevor Blows and Bocking’s Mark Williams were joined by Jenny Suckling of Thorley in winning the Essex Invitation Petanque League’s end-of-season triples competition.
Blows, Williams and Suckling progressed unbeaten into the semi-finals where they had another victory against the Bardfield trio of Iain Graham, Ian Ruffle and Carolynne Ruffle.
The other semi-final saw Bocking duo David Adams and Paul Williams, along with John Humphries (Billericay), progress against Peter Chown (Billericay), David Bird (Onley Arms) and Ron Sweeting (Thorley).
In the final, with the score at 2-2, Blows shot out the holding boule, which allowed his team to score six. This hit the opposition hard and Blows, Williams and Suckling went on to win comfortably 13-3.
The Plate competition was won by Lorne Gibson (Onley Arms), Ron Martin (Maldon) and Peter Dodkins (Thorley) as they defeated Malcolm Smith (Bocking), Beryl Gibson (Onley Arms) and Paul Adams (Bocking).
