With their principle aim almost in the bag, Braintree Cricket Club are turning their attention back towards the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two title race.

A four-wicket victory against Sudbury seconds last weekend means Braintree need just four points from their remaining two games to be assured of promotion to the top flight.

That has always been the Panfield Lane side’s primary target for this year, but even though that looks likely now, captain Will Jackson there will be no loss of focus as leaders Copford are still in their sights.

He said: “We should get promoted from where we are as we have four points to get from two games and it would be a massive failure if we let it slip from here.

“That will be great as it will be mission accomplished, but we’re definitely not letting up.

“Congratulations to Copford as their promotion is guaranteed, but we’re looking to chase them down.

“Hopefully they do slip up and we can get past them.

“The title would be very special and we want to take the season to the last game.

“If we can go into that last game knowing that a win could take the title then that will be an extra incentive for us.”

Braintree’s penultimate action sees them head to Mildenhall seconds today.
