An in-form Bocking side were unable to stop new Essex Invitation Petanque League champions Onley Arms from adding cup honours to their list of achievements on finals night.

Hosts Bocking headed into the final on the back of winning nine games in a row while the Onley Arms had clinched the league title the previous week.

In the triples, Pam Adams, David Adams and Malcolm Smith opened the scoring for Bocking but the shooting success of Trevor Blows gave Onley the edge.

Lorne Gibson and Beryl Gibson pointed well to give the triples to the Onley, 13-9.

In the doubles, Adams and Trevor Turner opened an 8-0 lead over the Gibson pairing.

At the same time, Smith, a 13-2 winner over Blows in their league encounter, had built a 5-3 lead in the singles.

Blows and Smith traded points but in the second half, it was Blows who pointed well to win 13-10.

In the pairs, a five for the Onley duo saw them close in on Bocking, with good shooting from Lorne Gibson putting them in front and they held on for a 13-11 win to wrap up a 3-0 overall victory.

In the Plate, Blackwater U3A were never troubled in a 3-0 win against Three Elms A.
