Braintree Bowls Club’s A team created history by winning the Central Midweek Bowling League’s Percy McDonald Shield for a fourth consecutive year.

The competition is for teams playing in divisions four, five and six of the league and the 21-end final was played against a strong Falcon line-up at RHP (Chelmsford).

Both Braintree teams started off tentatively, trying to adjust to the fast green’s idiosyncrasies.

The Falcon teams quickly coped with them, though, and held the lead after five ends. It was not until the seventh end that the Braintree players started to adjust to the variants of the rinks and established a 14-11 lead.

All the Braintree bowlers in both teams were contributing to the shot tally, which eventually saw them take an unassailable lead as they ended with a 50-26 victory to take the shield for the fourth time.

The separate rinks saw Braintree skip Donna Law, Richard Dodds, Phil Deal and lead Clive Dickens win 26-11 on the first, while the other had skip Martin Law, Rita Dodds, Adele Long and lead Chris Long winning 24-15.
