BRAINTREE’S Olympic skeet shooting star Victoria Humphries has seen her hard work rewarded with an England call-up.

The 25-year-old Olympic skeet shooter has been picked for the England team and she will now compete in this month’s Home Internationals, at Bisley, Surrey.

As part of a two-woman team, Humphries and her new England team-mates will take on competitors from the likes of Scotland and Wales.

“It was last week I found out I’d been selected by England,” she said.

“I just felt all of my hard work had paid off.

“It’s a lot of work, training for my discipline.

“I need to be training at least three times a week and every month I’m off to train with my academy programme within British Shooting, which lasts for a few days up in Derby.”

Now Humphries has her chance on the international stage and it’s something she’s looking to take full advantage of.

“It’s all excitement now for the Home Internationals, in Bisley,” she said.

“I’ve got a real chance to show what I can do on the international stage and I’m really feeling confident about it.”

The English shooter joins a generation striving to reach the biggest sporting stages on the planet and she sees this oppurtunity as a perfect platform to boost her chances.

“After Brisley, my aspirations are with the 2018 Commonwealth Games and obviously a dream would be to get to the 2020 Olympics after that.”

But for now, Humphries’ feet are firmly on the ground.

“August 21, when I compete, is the big date and I’m just really excited to be involved and confident I can do myself proud.”
