Braintree and Bocking Swimming Club ended the London Junior Swimming League on a high as they hosted and won the final gala of the season to take the overall trophy.

The team went into the final level on points with Luton and their young swimmers did not disappoint as they finished first on the night and were awarded the trophy in front of a very supportive audience.

The victory was dedicated to the outgoing organisers, Roger and Janet Watkins, who have done so much for this league over the years.

From the start, the 12 year-old-girls team of Nell Sackett, Eleanor Burder, Mia Adlington and Olivia Campe came second in the freestyle relay and followed that up with another second in the medley.

The highlight of the night were the nine-year teams who did a fantastic job in securing first, second and third places. The girls also won three out of the four individual races, with Lily Bott swimming a fantastic backstroke and Rosie Henn winning both the freestyle and breaststroke.

The girls were ably supported by Marcie Aley and Faith Kern, while the boys put in a great performance, with Harold Edwards in the breaststroke, Hayden Miller in the backstroke, Daniel Parker in the butterfly and Louie Walker in the freestyle.

The ten-year girls kept the momentum going with Ellie setting a backstroke personal best (PB), Nancy Neave winning a double in the freestyle and Darcy Coburn swimming up an age group with a PB in the freestyle.

The most improved swimmer was ten-year-old Angelina Krishnan, who shaved nine seconds off her breaststroke time and Thomas Pullen won the ten-year boys’ breaststroke.

Harry Beney had backstroke and butterfly PBs in the 11-years, while Sam Rennie remained unbeaten in the breaststroke.
