Alex Lynn feels the way he finished the GP2 Series feature race at Silverstone has put him in a strong position for Sunday’s sprint race at the Northamptonshire circuit.

The 21-year-old from Dunmow near Braintree will start the GP2 sprint event fourth on the grid and the way he finished the feature race gives him confidence for a strong end to his weekend.

Lynn drove to fifth place in the final standings in Saturday’s race, one spot behind his DAMS Racing team-mate Pierre Gasly and a big leap up from the 12th spot that he started from.

So with the pace that he showed during the first race and a place on the second row of the grid, Lynn is looking forward to another good performance in front of the home fans.

Lynn, who is also development driver for the Williams Martini Racing Formula One team, said: “After qualifying, we were really disappointed that we couldn’t show our potential.

“We knew that we had to show our pace in the race but we were confident that we could do that and credit to the guys because they got the strategy right with a really fast pit stop.

“Coming from 12th to fifth is a real bonus and it gives us a good start in the sprint race and a chance to get some really good points.

“We will start fourth and we’ll start really positively.

“There are some improvements to make, but I don’t see why we can’t get a really good result.”
