Witham Town Football Club have a new chairman.

Having been involved for more than ten years at the Spa Road club, including being treasurer for the last six, Mark Nicholls has been voted in as the new chairman at the annual general meeting this week.

The role was left vacant last season after the shock death of long-time chairman Tony Last, with vice-chairman Jamie Baker stepping in to cover duties, but Nicholls has now been elected to take up the post permanently and is looking forward to it.

He said: “I wish to thank everyone for having trust in me – what a hard act to follow.

“I have a great working relationship with Jamie Baker (secretary), Kevin Carrol, Priti Patel, the club’s ambassador, and the rest of the committee.

“All I can say is ‘Tony if you’re looking down on us, this is for you’ gone but never forgotten.”

Meanwhile, Witham manager garry Kimble said he is pleased with how his squad building is going ahead of next season.

He said a number of players, including Danny Emmanuel, Ryan Charles, Conor Mead, John Watson, Ryan Blackman, Lewis Godbold and Martyn Guest, have all confirmed that they will be returning to the club.

Kimble said: “It is a great nucleus from last year and really gives me a good platform to build on.”
