For a second successive week, Braintree Golf Club bowed out of a county competition when they were beaten 10-5 at Nazeing in the third round of the Leslie Wood Trophy.
Trailing 3-2 after the morning foursomes, Braintree were still confident of success. But the home side forged ahead in the afternoon singles, taking seven of the ten games to run out comfortable winners.
Andy Goldsmith was Braintree’s most successful player, winning his foursomes with Gavin Bradley, before following up with victory in his singles game.
“We played well but came up against a really accomplished team who performed well on their own course,” said Braintree captain Alastair Stalker.
