Witham Cricket Club captain Jake Wakelin doesn’t feel his team’s confidence will have been knocked by their first defeat of the season.
Having won their opening four Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division one outings of the season, Witham’s run came to a halt with a loss at Frinton seconds.
It was a disappointment as the visitors had looked well set to record a fifth victory, but they ultimately fell 39 runs short in their reply to Frinton’s 202 for seven.
The result may not be the ideal preparation for today’s home fixture against a Wivenhoe side who are still unbeaten this year and lie second in the table, however, Wakelin feels his players won’t dwell on coming up short against Frinton.
“We’re still very confident going into the game against Wivenhoe,” he said.
“There’s no confdence lost after this result whatsoever.
“Everyone was disappointed by the defeat, which I was pleased to see, but everyone is fine.
“Wivenhoe are a good side and are unbeaten so far, but I see no reason why we can’t beat them.”
