Landing 11 tench meant that Andy Aves was victorious as the Kelvedon Club hosted the Merv Joslin Open on both pits at Silver End.

The back pit was favourite to produce the winner, if the tench fed, and they did for Aves of the home club as he caught throughout the match to finish with a total of 45-14-0, all taken on the pole and red maggot.

Sections (excluding winner): Front Pit: 1 L Turner (Kelvedon) 2-12-8, 2 S Everett (Kelvedon) 1-14-0. Back Pit: 1 P Thompsson (Team Fennes Fisheries 8-6-0, 2 B Hood (Kelvedon) 5-10-0.

Braintree and Bocking Angling Society made a return trip to the Cable Pond at Clare and it fished even better than on the first visit.

Gary Spong had bream, tench, roach and one carp on the pole, fishing various baits, for an excellent weight of 46-1-8.

The section winners also had mixed bags.

Sections: One J Loosley 34-6-0; Two: Kevin Howell 37-6-0.

The club are due to fish the Long Pond in May, but on this form, may well switch back to the Cable Pond.

A Friday Sweep at Notley was another low-weight affair and Mark Orrin came out on top with 3-9-0.

Sections (excluding winner): 1 P Thompson 1-11-8, 2 J Daniels 1-13-0.

The most recent Sweep saw an increase in the weights as the water warmed up and Bernard Huxter weighed a mixed bag of 14-2-0 to win, while Kevin Howell had a level 12-0-0 in second.

The Braintree and Bocking Angling Society club cards are now on sale at the Fennes and Bills Tackle, with prices unchanged from last season.

The date for the Braintree and Bocking prize presentation has been set for Wednesday, May 13, and will be held at the Liberal Club in Coggeshall Road, Braintree, starting at 8pm.
